COMMUNITY CATALYST BLOG

Anyone Can Be a Philanthropist!

Donate to support the Springfield Foundation, to one of our current endowment funds, or create a new endowment before the end of the year and receive tax benefits! Here are a few ways you can make an impact:

Become a Partner in Philanthropy

Your donation directly contributes to the success of vital programs and initiatives that benefit our community when you become a Partner in Philanthropy.

Cash Gifts
Cash gifts can be made by personal check, credit card (via our website), bank wire, money order, or bank draft and are eligible for an income tax charitable deduction.

Gifts Of Appreciated Stock

Gifts of appreciated stock, bonds, or mutual funds held for more than one year pay no capital gains tax on the transfer. Appreciated stock can be used to establish a charitable checking account, an endowed donor advised fund, or used within our grant cycle to support the most critical needs within our community.

Donor Advised Fund

Donor Advised Funds are a great option for donors who value freedom, flexibility, and choice, offering a hands-on approach to philanthropy and the ability to give to multiple organizations throughout the year. By opening a Donor Advised Fund with a cash or stock gift before the end of the year, you can secure valuable tax benefits while setting up a lasting, flexible giving strategy for the causes you care about most.

Qualified Charitable Distribution/Required Minimum Distribution

By making a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) to the Springfield Foundation before the end of the year, you can satisfy your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) while reducing your taxable income—providing a tax-efficient way to support your charitable passions. The IRA charitable rollover law allows tax-free transfers directly from an individual retirement account (IRA) to the Springfield Foundation. If you are age 70½ or older, your gift can fulfill your RMD and reduce your taxable income, even if you do not itemize deductions, as long as the transfer is made directly to the Springfield Foundation or an existing endowment fund.

Donating to the Springfield Foundation before the end of the year not only allows you to support our community, but it also provides you with potential tax benefits that can enhance your financial planning. Make a difference today and help us continue our mission to create positive change in the community for years to come!
